Works on phone and computer
| Device | Browser | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone, iPad | Safari | Records AAC in an MP4 container; we decode it and export MP3 or WAV. Needs iOS 14.5 or later. |
| Android | Chrome, Firefox | Records Opus; works the same as on a computer. |
| Windows, Mac, Linux | Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari | Pick the microphone in the browser's permission prompt or site settings. |
If recording does not start, check that the page is open over HTTPS and that the microphone is not blocked in the address bar. Recordings are limited to 15 minutes per take.
Tips for a clean voice recording
- Record in a quiet room with soft surfaces (curtains, a wardrobe) instead of bare walls.
- Stay a hand-width from the microphone; keep the level bar mostly in the middle, not hitting the end.
- Use headphones if you play anything else, so the speakers do not leak into the recording.
- Do a five-second test, play it back, then record the real take.
- This recorder captures what the microphone hears. It does not remove background noise, so a quiet room matters more than any setting.
What to do with the recording next
| You want | Tool | Runs where |
|---|---|---|
| Your voice as a girl, deep, robot or chipmunk voice | Voice changer | Browser |
| Voice higher or lower, or slower or faster | Pitch changer | Browser |
| Cut it further or make a ringtone | Audio cutter | Browser |
| Find the BPM of a beat you recorded | BPM finder | Browser |
MP3 or WAV?
- MP3 (192 kbps) is small and plays everywhere. Choose it for sharing, messages and podcasts.
- WAV is uncompressed and larger. Choose it if you will edit the recording further.
Frequently asked questions
Is my recording uploaded?
No. The microphone audio is recorded and encoded inside your browser. You can confirm in the Network tab of developer tools that no request carries the audio.
Is the voice recorder free?
Yes. No account, no watermark and no time limit from us beyond 15 minutes per take.
Why does the browser ask for microphone permission?
Browsers require your permission before any page can use the microphone. The permission only applies while the page is open and you can revoke it in site settings.
Does it work on iPhone?
Yes, in Safari on iOS 14.5 or later. Safari records in an MP4 container, which this page converts to MP3 or WAV for you.
Can it remove background noise?
No. It records the microphone as it is. For a clean result, record in a quiet room and close to the microphone.
Can I change my voice after recording?
Yes. Use the voice changer for girl, deep, robot, chipmunk and other effects, or the pitch changer for a precise key shift. Both run in your browser.
