What this text to sound effect tool does
Sound designers used to search libraries for hours to find a door that creaks the right way. A text-to-sound-effect model skips the search: it generates new audio that matches your description, so every result is original and yours to use.
- Two takes per prompt. Sound design is about choice, so each generation gives you two different versions to compare side by side.
- Waveform preview. See the shape of each take — a sharp transient, a long tail, a steady bed — before you download.
- MP3 and WAV. MP3 for quick use in video editors and social clips; WAV (16-bit) for DAWs, game engines and further processing.
- Length control from 2 to 22 seconds, or Auto to let the model pick a natural length.
- Seamless loop for ambiences and engine hums that need to repeat without a click.
- Prompt following: Creative lets the model add character; Literal sticks closely to your words.
- 20 starter presets across five racks so you can hear what it does in one tap.
How to write a good sound effect prompt
The model responds to concrete, physical descriptions. Think about what makes the sound, what happens to it, and where it happens.
| Instead of… | Try… | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| explosion | distant explosion with rumbling debris, outdoor | Distance and space shape the tail and the low end |
| door | heavy old wooden door slowly creaks open, close mic | Material + speed + mic position give a specific creak |
| game sound | bright retro 8-bit coin pickup chime | Style words (8-bit, retro) set the palette |
| rain | light rain on a tin roof, steady, night | The surface the rain hits is what you actually hear |
| whoosh | fast airy whoosh passing left to right | Speed and movement make transitions feel right |
Keep one main event per prompt. If you need a sequence (a door opens, footsteps, the door closes), generate the parts separately and line them up in your editor — you get more control and better results.
Free vs paid, and the licence
Every visitor gets one free generation (two takes) per day, reset at 00:00 UTC, with no account. After that, each generation costs 5 credits. The smallest pack, $4.90 for 200 credits, covers about 40 generations. Credits never expire on packs.
| Free generation | Paid generation | |
|---|---|---|
| Per day | 1 (2 takes) | As many as your credits cover |
| Length | Up to 22 s | Up to 22 s |
| Formats | MP3 + WAV | MP3 + WAV |
| Licence | Personal, non-commercial use | Commercial use: YouTube, podcasts, games, apps, ads, client work |
| Attribution | Not required | Not required |
Sounds you generate with credits are royalty-free for commercial projects. You may not resell or redistribute the raw sounds as a sound library or sample pack on their own. Prompts are checked for hateful or abusive content.
How it compares with other AI SFX generators
Several good sound effect generators exist. The main differences are whether you need an account before your first sound, what the free tier lets you do, and which formats you get. This is how the top results looked when we checked in October 2026.
| Tool | Try without an account | Free tier | Formats |
|---|---|---|---|
| TuneSplit (this page) | Yes | 1 generation a day, 2 takes | MP3 + WAV |
| ElevenLabs Sound Effects | No — sign-up first | Monthly credits, non-commercial | MP3 (WAV on paid plans) |
| Adobe Firefly sound effects | No — Adobe ID | Limited generative credits | Depends on plan |
| aisoundeffectgenerator.com | No — sign-in | None visible | MP3, PCM, Opus |
If you generate hundreds of sounds a month, a dedicated subscription may suit you better. For a sound for today's video or a game jam, starting here takes one click.
What people make with it
- YouTube and TikTok editors: whooshes, risers, hits and pops for transitions and captions.
- Indie game developers: UI clicks, pickups, power-ups, footsteps and ambiences, looped where needed.
- Podcasters: intros, stingers and scene-setting ambience.
- Filmmakers and students: foley you couldn't record — thunder on cue, a ship engine, a creature growl.
- Musicians: textures and one-shots to drop into a beat. Need the beat too? Try the AI beat maker.
Frequently asked questions
Is this AI sound effect generator free?
Yes. Your first generation each day is free, gives two takes, and needs no sign-up. After that each generation costs 5 credits; a $4.90 pack covers about 40.
Can I use the sound effects commercially?
Sounds made with credits come with a commercial licence for videos, games, apps, ads and client work, with no attribution. The daily free generation is for personal, non-commercial use.
How long can a sound effect be?
From 0.5 to 22 seconds. Choose Auto and the model picks a natural length for the sound, usually a few seconds.
Can I download WAV?
Yes. Every take downloads as MP3 or as a 16-bit WAV, made in your browser from the generated audio.
Can it make looping sounds?
Turn on Seamless loop and the model makes audio that repeats without a click — good for ambiences, engine hums and game backgrounds.
Which AI model makes the sounds?
We use ElevenLabs' sound effects model (v2) through a hosted API. Your prompt is sent to make the sound; we don't keep the audio files on our servers.
Can it make music or voices?
It's built for sound effects and ambience. For full songs use the AI song generator, and for beats the AI beat maker.
