What LALAL.AI does well
A fair comparison starts with what the incumbent is good at. LALAL.AI has been around for years and has a broad toolset. On its stem splitter page it lists vocals, instrumental, drums, bass, guitar, synth, strings and wind instruments, so it separates more instrument types than TuneSplit's 4-stem split. It also offers a lead and backing vocal splitter, a voice cleaner for background noise, an echo and reverb remover, desktop apps for Windows, macOS and Linux, iOS and Android apps, a VST plugin that runs inside a DAW (Pro plan), and an API. Its upload limit is 200 MB per file on the free plan and 2 GB on paid plans, and it accepts audio formats such as MP3, OGG, WAV, FLAC, AIFF, AAC and M4A, plus video files such as AVI, MP4, MKV, MOV and M4V.
If you need to pull a guitar or a synth out of a mix, separate lead from backing vocals, or work inside a DAW, LALAL.AI is built for that, and TuneSplit is not. We say so plainly because a comparison that hides it is not worth reading.
Free tier: preview versus download
This is the main practical difference. LALAL.AI's free Starter plan gives 10 minutes in its Relaxed Queue and a 200 MB upload limit. Its pricing page shows no result downloads on Starter, and its own help page says the Starter plan is mainly meant for testing: you can upload a file and preview the result, but downloading the full result is not available. For many people that is fine, because the goal is to hear whether the separation is good before paying.
TuneSplit's free tier is a different design. You get 3 files a day, each up to 10 minutes, and you can download every stem as an MP3 without paying or being limited to a preview. The limit is how many files you can process per day, not whether you can keep the output. Beyond 3 files, extra files cost 30 credits per started 5 minutes.
| LALAL.AI Starter (free) | TuneSplit free | |
|---|---|---|
| Allowance | 10 minutes in the Relaxed Queue | 3 files a day, up to 10 minutes each |
| Download of full result | Not available on Starter (per its help page) | Yes, every stem as MP3 |
| Stem types | Vocals, instrumental and more on the product page | 2 stems or 4 stems |
| Max file size | 200 MB per file | Up to 10 minutes per file |
Both free tiers have limits, and neither is unlimited. Pick the one that matches your goal: LALAL.AI to preview more instrument types, TuneSplit to actually keep a vocal, drum, bass or other stem.
Stems offered, formats and quality
TuneSplit uses Demucs htdemucs and offers two modes. 2-stem returns vocals plus music. 4-stem returns vocals, drums, bass and other, where other is everything left over such as guitar, keys and synths. It does not split guitar from keys, and it does not separate lead from backing vocals. If you need those, use a tool that offers them.
Inputs on TuneSplit are MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG and MP4. Stems download as MP3. LALAL.AI accepts a longer list of formats, including AIFF, AAC and several video containers, and its help page describes an output format drop-down, but we did not verify which output formats it offers on each plan, so we leave that cell blank rather than guess.
On quality, we make no claim that either site wins. Results depend on the song. Dense mixes with reverb, harmonies and overlapping instruments are harder to separate on any tool, and LALAL.AI's own help page says as much. Listen to the stems, not to a marketing line.
| Feature | LALAL.AI | TuneSplit |

Hear a real 4-stem split
This is the 4-stem split of the first 60 seconds of Sunlight, an indie pop song we generated with MiniMax Music v2. The split took 88 seconds. Each stem has its own player so you can solo them: vocals, drums, bass and other.
Listen for how clean the vocal is, how much cymbal wash leaks into other, and whether the bass keeps its low end. A full 3-minute song usually takes 20 to 60 seconds, and the clip above is the measured time for this one. You can try the same on your own file in the tool above.
Price per minute, as of Oct 2026
LALAL.AI sells minutes. On its pricing page, Lite is $7.5 a month billed as $90 a year and includes 90 Fast Queue minutes a month. Pro is $15 a month billed as $180 a year with 250 Fast Queue minutes. Both plans include unlimited minutes in the Relaxed Queue, which is slower and depends on server load. One-time top-ups of Fast minutes are 750 minutes for $50, 3,000 for $190 and 5,000 for $300. Unused Fast minutes do not roll over.
The key detail is how minutes are counted. LALAL.AI says the total is file length multiplied by the number of stem types you select. Pulling out four stem types from a 3-minute song can therefore use up to 12 minutes, not 3. TuneSplit charges per file length regardless of whether you pick 2 or 4 stems: extra files beyond the free 3 a day cost 30 credits per started 5 minutes.
| Option | Price | Minutes | Per minute, one stem type |
|---|---|---|---|
| LALAL.AI Lite (billed annually) | $7.5 a month | 90 Fast minutes a month | about $0.083 |
| LALAL.AI Pro (billed annually) | $15 a month | 250 Fast minutes a month | about $0.06 |
| LALAL.AI top-ups | $50, $190, $300 | 750, 3,000, 5,000 | about $0.067, $0.063, $0.06 |
| StemSplit credit packs (third-party site) | $2, $5, $12, $30 | Not re-verified | about $0.10 to $0.20 per its page |
| TuneSplit free | $0 | 3 files a day, 10 minutes each | $0 within the daily limit |
| TuneSplit extra files (credit packs) | $4.90 for 200 credits, $12.90 for 600 | 30 credits per started 5 minutes | about $0.147 and $0.129 |
| TuneSplit Pro credits | $9.90 a month for 450 credits | 30 credits per started 5 minutes | about $0.132 |
Read the table with care. LALAL.AI's per-minute price is lower on large volumes, and unlimited Relaxed Queue minutes may be better value if you can wait. TuneSplit's advantage is the free daily allowance with downloads and the same price for 2 or 4 stems. TuneSplit's paid plans and credit packs are live, and the pricing page has the current numbers. The per-minute figures are our own arithmetic from the numbers shown, rounded.
Privacy and retention
Your upload may be an unreleased demo or a client file, so this matters. TuneSplit stores uploads in private storage, deletes them within 24 hours, and never uses them for training. The BPM and key finder, pitch and speed changer, and lyric video maker run entirely in your browser, so those files are never uploaded at all.
For LALAL.AI, we read its privacy policy on 18 Oct 2026. It is a long general policy and we could not confirm a specific retention period for uploaded audio, so we mark it not verified. Check its terms and privacy policy before you upload sensitive material. Whichever site you use, only upload audio you have the rights to process.
Who should pick what
- If you want to keep a vocal, a drum loop or a bass line without paying first, TuneSplit's free tier covers 3 files a day with MP3 downloads.
- If you need guitar, synth, strings or wind on their own, lead versus backing vocals, noise removal, a DAW plugin or a desktop app, LALAL.AI offers those and TuneSplit does not.
- If you split dozens of long tracks a month, compare per-minute prices using the same stem count and file length before you decide.
- If you also make songs, TuneSplit lets you generate one, split it, check the BPM and key, and turn it into a lyric video on the same site.
Neither tool is the right answer for everyone, and you can use both. The point of this page is to give you the numbers so you can choose.
Frequently asked questions
What is a good free LALAL AI alternative?
TuneSplit is a free option whose free tier includes the download. You get 3 files a day, up to 10 minutes each, in 2-stem (vocals and music) or 4-stem (vocals, drums, bass, other) mode, using Demucs htdemucs. Every stem downloads as an MP3, a 3-minute song usually takes 20 to 60 seconds, and uploads are deleted within 24 hours.
Can you download stems on LALAL.AI's free plan?
As of Oct 2026, LALAL.AI's help page says its free Starter plan is mainly for testing: you can upload a file and preview the result, but downloading the full result is not available. Starter includes 10 minutes in the Relaxed Queue and a 200 MB upload limit. Paid plans unlock downloads. Check its pricing page for the current terms.
How much does LALAL.AI cost?
On its pricing page on 18 Oct 2026, LALAL.AI listed Starter as free, Lite at $7.5 a month billed annually ($90 a year) and Pro at $15 a month billed annually ($180 a year). Lite includes 90 Fast Queue minutes a month and Pro includes 250, and both have unlimited Relaxed Queue minutes. Top-ups start at 750 minutes for $50.
How many stems does TuneSplit give?
Two modes. The 2-stem mode returns vocals and music. The 4-stem mode returns vocals, drums, bass and other, where other holds everything else such as guitar, keys and synths. TuneSplit does not separate guitar, synth, strings or wind on their own, so choose a tool that does if you need those.
Is TuneSplit's stem splitter as accurate as LALAL.AI?
We do not claim it is. TuneSplit uses the open Demucs htdemucs model, and results vary by song, especially dense mixes with reverb and harmonies. We have not run a blind comparison. The best test is your own file, so split a short clip on both tools and listen to each stem on its own.
Does LALAL.AI count minutes per stem?
Yes. Its pricing page says that for stem separation in the Vocal Remover and Stem Splitter, the minutes deducted equal the file length multiplied by the number of stem separation types selected. A 3-minute file with four stem types selected can therefore use up to 12 minutes. TuneSplit charges by file length only, whether you pick 2 or 4 stems.
What file formats does TuneSplit accept?
MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG and MP4 for upload, up to 10 minutes per file on the free tier. Stems download as MP3. LALAL.AI accepts a longer list that includes AIFF, AAC and several video containers such as AVI, MKV, MOV and M4V, so use it if your source is in one of those.
Does TuneSplit keep or train on my uploads?
No training. Uploaded files go to private storage and are deleted within 24 hours, and they are never used to train models. The BPM finder, pitch changer and lyric video maker run in your browser and never upload the file at all. LALAL.AI's retention period was not verified in our check, so read its privacy policy.
What happens after the 3 free files a day?
Free tools allow 3 files a day, each up to 10 minutes. Beyond that, each additional file costs 30 credits per started 5 minutes, and the 2-stem and 4-stem modes cost the same. The free allowance refreshes every day. Credit packs and paid plans are on the pricing page.
Can I use stems commercially?
That depends on who owns the audio, not on the splitter. Only upload recordings you own or are licensed to use. TuneSplit's free use is personal and non-commercial, and splitting a commercial release does not give you rights to it. A commercial licence is part of the Pro plan.
Can TuneSplit split a song and also make one?
Yes. The same site includes an AI song generator that returns 2 versions per prompt, a BPM and key finder, a pitch and speed changer, and a lyric video maker. For songs generated on TuneSplit, a 30-second stem preview is free and full-length WAV stems cost 20 credits. LALAL.AI is focused on separation and voice tools.
