Free AI Music Maker for Instrumentals and Video Scores

Not every project needs a singer. A study stream needs a calm loop, a product video needs an uplifting bed, a game jam needs a tense cue. TuneSplit's AI music maker generates instrumentals from a short description, returns two versions from two models, and keeps the tempo, key and stem tools one click away.

TuneSplit's AI music maker generates instrumental music and songs from a text description. Choose the instrumental vocal option, a style and a mood, and get two versions in 10 to 95 seconds. The first track is free with no sign-up, then 6 tracks a day up to 2 minutes each.

What people use an AI music maker for

Most requests for AI music are not for a radio single. They are for the quiet layer under something else. Common jobs include background music for YouTube and short videos, loops for study and focus streams, intros for podcasts, atmosphere for a game prototype, a demo track for a pitch deck, or a mood piece for a presentation.

What these jobs share is that the music should support the content instead of competing with it. That favors instrumentals with a steady groove, a limited palette and no sudden vocal lines. It also means you often need several options quickly, which is why TuneSplit returns two versions per request.

If you want songs with lyrics and singing, the AI song generator and AI song maker pages cover that. This page is about music: beds, loops, cues and instrumentals.

Pick a style and a mood

Style decides the instruments and the rhythm. Mood decides the harmony and the energy. Combining the two gives the model a clear target without a long prompt.

Listen: a real lo-fi instrumental

This is an unedited generation from the site's own build, not a mock-up. The prompt was just seven words: lofi hip hop, chill, rhodes piano, vinyl crackle, instrumental.

Lo-fi StudyPrompt: lofi hip hop, chill, rhodes piano, vinyl crackle, instrumentalACE-Step · 2:00 long · ready in 11 s · unedited output

ACE-Step produced the 2:00 file in 11 seconds, which makes it the right model for quick loop hunting. When you want fuller arrangements, or when a track includes a sung part, the MiniMax Music v2 version takes longer, roughly 60 to 95 seconds, but tends to build more developed sections.

To hear how the same prompt can lead to two different arrangements, play these two takes of one indie pop idea. Both used the same words and style prompt. They are songs with vocals, but the contrast in arrangement and length shows why comparing two versions helps. The first took 94 seconds and runs 2:30, and the second took 27 seconds and runs 1:44.

For background music, set the vocal to instrumental and you will receive the backing without the sung line.

Background music for videos

Video editors have a few habits that make AI music work better. Write the prompt around the scene, not the genre alone. Ask for a clean intro, because a track that starts with a long fade is hard to cut. Keep the tempo steady if you plan to cut on the beat, and note the BPM so your edits land.

  • Match length. Free tracks go up to 2 minutes, Pro to 3 and Premier to 4. For longer videos, loop the best section or make two tracks in the same style.
  • Leave room for the voiceover. Sparse arrangements with soft pads and light percussion sit under narration. Dense, bright leads fight with it.
  • Use the stem splitter to lower the drums or remove the top line if a section feels crowded. You can mute stems in your editor.
  • Check the tempo. The BPM and key finder shows BPM, half-time and double-time options and the key, so you can match two tracks.
  • Mind the licence. Free tracks are personal and non-commercial. Monetized videos need the Pro commercial licence.

For short vertical videos, the lyric video maker can also render an animated waveform over a music track at 9:16 or 16:9, with an optional image background. It renders in your browser, and free exports include a small Made with TuneSplit mark.

Fix and reuse your tracks

A generated track is a starting point. Here is a four-stem split of a track to show what the splitter returns: the original mix, vocals, drums, bass and other, plus an instrumental file. This was Sunlight A, first 60 seconds, split in 88 seconds with Demucs htdemucs.

Vocals
Drums
Bass
Other (synths, guitars)
Instrumental (no vocals)
Sunlight (version A), first 60 s, split with Demucs htdemucs into 4 stems; instrumental = drums + bass + other. Unedited output.

Two uses stand out for music makers. First, the drums stem is handy as a loop base, and the bass stem can be resampled. Second, the instrumental file is a ready-made backing track. You get a free 30-second preview of stems for songs you made with TuneSplit, and Pro gives full-length WAV stems for 20 credits.

The pitch and speed changer helps with fitting a track into a scene. It shifts pitch from -12 to +12 semitones and speed from 50 to 150 percent independently, so slowing a track does not drop its key. Quick chips cover plus or minus 1 and 2 semitones and speeds of 75, 90, 110 and 125 percent. You can preview and download WAV.

TuneSplit vs other AI music makers

freemusic.ai offers text, lyrics and instrumental modes with tracks of up to 8 minutes. somio.ai is polished and has a broad feature set. MusicGPT and Suno are popular for quick output. As of Oct 2026, here is what we can see publicly. Prices change, so verify before buying.

If you need a single track longer than 4 minutes, a rival that offers 8-minute tracks may fit better. If you want to try without registering, and then work with stems or tempo in the same place, TuneSplit is built for that.

Safety and rights

TuneSplit does not clone voices, make covers in a real singer's voice or imitate named artists. Do not paste a famous song's name into the prompt and expect a copy. Upload only audio you have the rights to. Files sent to the stem splitter are stored privately, deleted within 24 hours and not used for training.

Frequently asked questions

Is the AI music maker free?

Yes, within limits. No sign-up is needed. Each browser gets 30 free credits each UTC day, which pays for 3 generations of 2 tracks each, so 6 tracks a day. Free tracks run up to 2 minutes and are for personal use only. Paid plans add longer tracks and a commercial licence.

Can it make instrumental music with no vocals?

Yes. Choose the instrumental option instead of female or male vocal, then pick a style and a mood. Adding the word instrumental to the prompt helps too. In our test, a lo-fi prompt of seven words returned a 2-minute instrumental in 11 seconds on the ACE-Step model.

Can I use the music in my YouTube or TikTok videos?

Free tracks are for personal, non-commercial use, such as a private or non-monetized video. For a monetized channel, ads or client work you need the commercial licence that comes with Pro. TuneSplit does not run a content ID claim system, so keep a record of your licence.

How long can a track be?

Free tracks are up to 2 minutes. Pro supports up to 3 minutes and Premier up to 4 minutes. If a video is longer than your track, loop the strongest section in your editor or generate a second track in the same style and crossfade between them.

How fast is it?

The ACE-Step version typically finishes in 10 to 30 seconds. The MiniMax Music v2 version takes about 60 to 95 seconds. You can listen to the first version while the second is still rendering. If anything fails, the 10 credits for that generation are refunded automatically.

Which styles and moods can I pick?

Styles are pop, lo-fi hip hop, acoustic folk, rock, R&B, EDM, trap, country, jazz, cinematic, k-pop and reggaeton, or any free text. Moods are happy, sad, romantic, energetic, chill, epic, funny and dark. Add instruments and tempo in your own words for finer control.

Can I find the BPM and key of a track?

Yes. The BPM and key finder analyzes a file in your browser, so the audio is never uploaded. It shows BPM with half-time and double-time alternatives, a confidence value, the musical key, a Camelot code, a runner-up key and a pitch-class chart. There is also a tap-tempo button.

Can I remove or isolate parts of a track?

Yes. The stem splitter separates a song into vocals and music, or into vocals, drums, bass and other, using Demucs htdemucs. The free tool takes 3 files a day, up to 10 minutes each, and lets you download each stem as MP3. For tracks you made here, full-length WAV stems are a Pro feature.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. It is a web page, so it runs in a mobile browser on iPhone and Android without an app. Generation happens on our servers. Stems, BPM detection and pitch changes are fine on a recent phone, although very long files are easier to process on a computer.

Is it better than Suno or freemusic.ai for background music?

It depends on your need. Suno has a huge community, and freemusic.ai offers tracks up to 8 minutes. TuneSplit lets you make tracks with no sign-up, compares two models per prompt and has stems and tempo tools beside the generator. Test the same prompt in each and keep what sounds right.
